Old Road

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken is something of a lament about what that road might have brought rather the road taken.

I am currently reflecting that for myself and perhaps you are too.

Do you love what you are doing now?

Are you having success?

Was there something else you wanted to do?

The word ‘Why’ can be a double-edged sword.

While it can provide clarity, it can also be used by well-intentioned friends, parents, teachers, counsellors, life coaches, and people with selfish agendas that steer you in the wrong direction for you.

Usually, it is not their fault and it is not your fault. Often your inclinations are still forming and not ready to withstand questions from you and others.

Questions like:

  • Why do you want to do that?
  • Are you qualified?
  • Is that a responsible decision?
  • That won’t work!
  • Have you thought this through?

Especially for pursuits such as art and music, the road to success is not as clear as it seems with more ‘practical’ choices such as getting a regular job, learning a trade, becoming qualified to do something that pays.

No matter your choice, you will do better if you are sincerely interested enough that your interest and love will carry you through the tough times.

And often the thing that is hard to rationalize is the special gift you have that will bring you joy and abundance.

The world needs that special gift that only you have.

The Case for Joy

Joseph Campbell

Follow your bliss.
If you do follow your bliss,
you put yourself on a kind of track
that has been there all the while waiting for you,
and the life you ought to be living
is the one you are living.
When you can see that,
you begin to meet people
who are in the field of your bliss,
and they open the doors to you.
I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid,
and doors will open
where you didn’t know they were going to be.
If you follow your bliss,
doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.

Joseph Campbell

Abraham Hicks also teaches that our main mission as humans is to align with the vibrations of joy to unlock unlimited abundance. There are hundreds of video clips on YouTube like this one:

The main approach is to pay attention to what makes you feel good and be grateful.

Daily Gratitude Brings Joy

What Gives Me Joy

Here are the things I have enjoyed for decades.

  • Being in nature appreciating things like the quiet, moving water, wind, and the beauty of creation
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Travel
  • Visiting galleries, museums, and historical sites
  • Music of all genres
  • Writing
  • Video and Photography
  • Sharing Stories
  • Volunteering

As I read this, I am doing some of the things as part of my life and business, but not all.

I will make some adjustments.

Abraham Hicks says that everything you need is in front of you now, and that is true for me.

Doing everything on my Joy list can be done for very little money.

A motorhome or van with room for a bed, stove, cooler, laptop, and stuff to make art and music is all that is needed.

A little money for gas and food and a few other expenses and I’m golden.

That is one of the reasons I like having remote clients and am learning how to trade.

You may have much more ambitions goals for your life.

What would you love to be doing that you are not not doing now?

What changes can you make today to align with your Joy?

By the way, Abraham Hicks would say that JOY is ALWAYS the WHY you need:-)
